04/12 – ETF Trading – USO, UCO

Good morning. Not a whole lot is flashing on my etf stock screener; however, I do have a suggestion for today.

Put USO on your watch list. Take an initial position should this etf close lower today. USO has closed lower for 4 days in a row, and looks ready for a rebound. For a leveraged trade, consider UCO.

USO – The investment objective of USO is for the changes in percentage terms of its units’ net asset value (“NAV”) to reflect the changes in percentage terms of the spot price of light, sweet crude oil delivered to Cushing, Oklahoma, as measured by the changes in the price of the futures contract for light, sweet crude oil traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange (the “NYMEX”), less USO’s expenses.

UCO – The investment will seek to replicate, net of expenses, twice the daily performance of the Dow Jones UBS Crude Oil Sub-Index. The fund normally invests assets in financial instruments with economic characteristics twice the return of the index. It may employ leveraged investment techniques in seeking its investment objective.

All etf trades are at the market close. Please trade responsibly.

12/17 – ETF Trading – USO, UCO, FXI

Oil moved higher yesterday, and so did our etf trades in USO (and UCO). Our exit signals were triggered as the RSI(2) of the closing price moved above 70. We had a gain of .75% in USO, excluding trading costs. UCO broke even.

We took a third trading position in FXI as it moved lower yesterday. We’ll patiently wait for the market to correct and trigger our exit signals.

Our etf exit signals are triggered when the etf price is greater than it’s MA(5), or – for a potentially larger gain – when the RSI(2) is greater than 70; we’ve been using the latter. All trades are at the market close.

12/16 – ETF Trading – USO, UCO, FXI

The major market indices moved lower yesterday and so did FXI. Add a third trading position should FXI close lower today. Our exit signal is triggered when the RSI(2) of the closing price is greater than 70.

Despite the lackluster market yesterday, USO (and UCO) moved higher with the closing price finishing above the 5 day moving average. The MA(5) exit signal resulted in a losing trade. However, our exit signal is triggered when the RSI(2) of the closing price is greater than 70. We’ll follow the trade to it’s conclusion.
