03/29 – ETF Trading – USO, UCO

Put USO on your watch list today; USO closed lower yesterday, generating an etf trading opportunity. Consider taking the first trading position in USO should the etf close lower today.

For the leveraged trade, consider UCO. However, follow the etf trading signals for USO. UCO is a “double” etf – please trade carefully.

USO – The United States Oil Fund, LP (“USO”) is a domestic exchange traded security designed to track the movements of light, sweet crude oil (“West Texas Intermediate”).

UCO – ProShares Ultra DJ-UBS Crude Oil seeks daily investment results, before fees and expenses, that correspond to twice (200%) the daily performance of the Dow Jones—UBS Crude Oil Sub-Index SM.

We may take up to 3 trading positions over the next couple of days. Our first position is 1/6 of our total trading amount. Our second position is 1/3 of our total trading amount. Our third trading position is 1/2 of our total trading amount. You could also position your trades in a 20-30-50 ratio.

All trades are at the market close. Please trade responsibly.

Assuming we get into the trade, our exit signals are triggered when the closing price for USO is higher than it’s MA(5), or – for a potentially larger gain – when the RSI(2) is greater than 70.

02/18 – ETF Trading – Loss on USO, UCO

Our etf exit signals finally triggered for this agonizing trade in USO. Unfortunately (and luckily) we took just a small loss in the trade – 0.66%. The leveraged etf trade in UCO yielded a loss of 3.36%.

USO did have a nice rally yesterday – up 1.49% – which helped to minimize our loss. Unfortunately, UCO only rallied .66% – it should have (in theory) rallied twice as much as USO since it’s a “double etf.”

This was our first trading loss of the year and the first since September 2010. Our trading is “high probability trading” – not “guaranteed trading.”

I have no new etf trading opportunities to suggest today. We’ll wait for a broader market trend to offer new etf trading opportunities.

Learn more about the etf trading strategies we use here. They’re in the book by Larry Connors: High Probability ETF Trading. His etf trading strategies have just a few simple rules and you’ll be able to back-test and apply the strategies to the next trading day. 02/16 – ETF Trading – USO, UCO

We’re patiently waiting for our etf exit signals to trigger. USO closed lower yesterday and is about as over-sold as it can get. Be patient, dear trader. We’re due for a correction and hopefully a winning trade.

Our exit signals are triggered when the closing price for USO is higher than it’s MA(5), or – for a potentially larger gain – when the RSI(2) is more than 70. We’re using the latter signal.

Exit the trade in UCO on the signals for USO.

All etf trades are at the market close. Please trade responsibly.

02/15 – ETF Trading – USO, UCO

We’re into a full trading position for USO (and/or UCO). We’ve scaled into three trading positions over the past several trading days.

USO closed lower yesterday and is over-sold (and due for a correction), having closed lower in 7 of the last 8 trading sessions. This is confirmed by the low RSI 2 as shown in the chart below.

Trading patience is required now and we’ll wait for the market to move higher from here. Our exit signals are triggered when the etf price is greater than it’s MA(5), or – for a potentially larger gain – when the RSI(2) is greater than 70. We’re using the latter.

Follow the signals for USO when trading UCO. All trades are at the market close. Please trade responsibly!

How do all of these trading signals work? Find out in the book by Larry Connors: High Probability ETF Trading.
