09/28 – ETF Trading – IWM, RWM, TWM

IWM closed higher yesterday, with an RSI 2 greater than 75. Should it close higher today, consider taking your first short position in the etf trade.

IWM – The investment seeks investment results that correspond generally to the price and yield performance of the Russell 2000 index.

Can’t short IWM? Consider trading the inverse etf RWM or the double inverse etf TWM – please trade carefully.

RWM – ProShares Short Russell2000 seeks daily investment results, before fees and expenses, that correspond to the inverse (opposite) of the daily performance of the Russell 2000® Index.

TWM – The investment seeks daily investment results, before fees and expenses, which correspond to twice the inverse of the daily performance of the Russell 2000 index.

Focusing on the inverse etfs, we may take up to 3 trading positions over the next couple of days. Our first position is 1/6 of our total trading amount. Our second position is 1/3 of our total trading amount. Our third trading position is 1/2 of our total trading amount. You could also take positions in a 20-30-50 ratio. All trades are at the market close. Please trade responsibly.

Assuming we get into the trade, our exit signals for RWM are triggered when the closing price for RWM is higher than it’s 5 day moving average, or – for a potentially larger gain – when the RSI 2 is greater than 70. Trade TWM similarly.

Learn why the Russell 2000 index is now a good short etf trading opportunity in the book by Larry Connors: High Probability ETF Trading. His etf trading strategies have only a few rules and you’ll be able to back-test and apply the strategies to the next trading day.

09/24 – ETF Trading – Loss on IWM, TWM

Our etf exit signal finally triggered for this agonizing short trade in IWM. Time wise, this has been the longest trade of the year. Unfortunately (but luckily) we took a small loss in the trade – 0.40%. The leveraged etf trade in TWM yielded a loss of 2.10%.

Our goal is to produce more winning trades versus losing trades. On that goal, we’re on track. We have made 26 winning trades out of 34 for the year. That’s a winning percentage of over 76%. You can review all of our trades by month.

I have no etf trading opportunities to suggest today. We’ll wait for a broader market trend to offer new etf trading opportunities.

Learn more about the etf trading strategies we use here. They’re in the book by Larry Connors: High Probability ETF Trading. His etf trading strategies have just a few simple rules and you’ll be able to back-test and apply the strategies to the next trading day. Get your copy today and be ready for the next trading session.

09/23 – ETF Trading – IWM, TWM

World markets are lower this morning and stock futures are pointing to a sell-off (as of 5:51 AM EDT). Perhaps today we’ll get the etf exit signals for which we’ve been so patiently waiting.

To review, we have a full short trading position in IWM which closed lower yesterday, but not enough to trigger our exit signals.

Our exit signals are triggered when the closing price for IWM is lower than it’s MA(5), or – for a potentially larger gain – when the RSI(2) is less than 30. We’re using the latter signal.

Exit the trade in TWM on the signals for IWM.

All etf trades are at the market close. Please trade responsibly.

In Short Term Trading Strategies That Work, Larry Connors teaches you some of his best strategies to trade popular ETFs like the SPYs, QQQQ’s and many of the more actively traded ETFs.
