08/04 – ETF Trading – XLE, DIG
XLE closed lower yesterday and you took your third and final position in the etf trade. Likewise for the leveraged etf trade in DIG.
Now, we’ll just wait for our exit signals to trigger. Our etf exit signals are triggered when the etf price is greater than it’s 5 day moving average, or – for a potentially larger gain – when the RSI 2 is greater than 70. We’re using the latter.

Uh oh….this is the exact situation I was dreading…the fat tail….a lot of mean reversion strategies get killed when the fat tail occurs…anyone else losing big in this trade?
The trade is not over until you sell – we’re not done yet.
These mean-reversion strategies work until they don’t. Then it is very painful. Having no stop loss is akin to picking up nickels on the train tracks…you better know when to get out of the way.

I think (could be wrong) that if the rsi(2) does go above 70 it will still not get us back to break-even. Figures that this would happen a month after I started using this approach!
